Sweet Darkness

A collection by Amal Rafie

The night has a way of bringing out a different side of us. More reflective. More intuitive. Almost like stepping into a quieter, more mysterious world.

This collection captures the dreaminess of the night, the mystery of shadows, and the revelations that come when the world is asleep. It is an ode to the self we meet under the stars.

I was inspired to create this collection after reading the poem Sweet Darkness by David Whyte.

Sweet Darkness

by David Whyte

When your eyes are tired

the world is tired also

When your vision has gone

no part of the world can find you

Time to go into the dark

where the night has eyes

to recognize its own

There you can be sure

you are not beyond love

The dark will be your home

tonight

The night will give you a horizon

further than you can see

You must learn one thing

The world was made to be free in

Give up all the other worlds

except the one to which you belong

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet

confinement of your aloneness

to learn

anything or anyone

that does not bring you alive

is too small for you

The night holds a certain mystery. A dreamlike quality when thoughts deepen. It’s a time when the noise of the day fades and clarity begins to form in solitude. David Whyte’s words speak of entering that space. Of the unearthing that only darkness can bring. The peeling back of layers. The quiet truths we overlook in daylight. When dreams feel like premonitions and hidden thoughts begin to speak. When we slip into a different dimension that only exists in silence or aloneness.

There are seven pieces in this collection. Each one crafted in silver into the late hours of the night. When the studio was quiet and the rest of the world felt far away. They carry something of that feeling with them. Intuitive. Still. A little otherworldly.
